Art imitates
He worked with a technology that is incredible. Right now there are two planes flying over Baghdad filming almost all of the city. Digitally recording all motion that goes on. They record three tera-bytes every eight hours. This has affected the hard drive market they use up so much memory. These high definition cameras are mounted in aircraft using some kind of gyroscopic mounting system.
When a roadside bomb event happens they can go back in time and record the vehicle coming and leaving. They then can make a pinpoint strike against the insurgents at the home where the vehicle went. Pretty cool technology don't you think? When he was telling me this I thought of a movie I had seen. He told me the story of how this technology was born.
A couple of scientist were watching the movie with Will Smith "Enemy of the State" One looked over to the other and asked can we do this? Then out come the napkins and they came up with the technology.
He then told me something that he was very passionate about. He said "Art imitates life" That is why I don't let my kids play video games. I don't let them watch television or movies with violence or sex in them. Our world has become sick because of this. Life has become devalued and kids act out what they see or play.
I couldn't help but think of my new friend when I watched a movie this weekend with Michael on his X-Box. It was a movie called "Condemed". It starred Stone Cold Steve Austin. The whole story line was about a guy who created a reality show that was only shown on the internet for a fee of fifty dollars. The competition he came up with was ten condemed convicts were set loose on an undisclosed island. They had thirty hours to kill the other convicts before their tethered exposive on their ankle blew up. If they were the last man standing they would be set free.
They had cameras all over the island and they recorded all the brutal ways they killed each other off. Oh and by the way two of the convicts were women so you know there was rape involved in the mix. As the killings happened more and more people were logging on to the internet and watching, this was making the guy a bunch of money.
Now I see a new movie coming out about this guy who kills people on line. The more people that log on, the faster the person is killed. I think it was called Helpmekillthem.com. The FBI tells people to stay away from the site or they will be accessories to the killings. But this attempt backfires and people curious start logging on.
I must admit sadly that these movies were and sound entertaining but I can't help thinking about the ramifications. What if there are some weird hackers out there that want to make a buck and figure out how to do some of this stuff in real life?
I'll have to go back and talk to my friend and get his take on all this.
The movie looks pretty good will I go see it? Not sure...but I'm sure curious!
God Bless,
Randy
